Warm Up
Israel (Iz) Kamakawiwo’ole – Somewhere over the rainbow & What a wonderful world (Facing Future) (5:08)
This doesn’t seem to be available as an MP3 from US Amazon. (It’s available in the UK.)
This video has both songs, but it’s not the version from Facing Future. Too much echo on the vocal and ukulele.
Neville Brothers – Little piece of heaven (Valence Street) (5:08)
Stretch
Ella Fitzgerald – I cried for you (The Intimate Ella) (3:29)
Ella Fitzgerald – I hadn’t anyone til you (The Intimate Ella) (2:51)
Ella Fitzgerald – I’m getting sentimental over you (The Intimate Ella) (2:38)
Ella Fitzgerald – Misty (The Intimate Ella) (2:54)
A live performance. What an incredible voice. Mesmerizing.
Circle
Madeleine Peyroux – Smile (Half The Perfect World) (3:57)
Emmylou Harris – Mr. Sandman (Emmylou Harris Anthology) (2:12)
I can’t find a video of Emmylou Harris doing this song, but here’s a 1954 version by The Chordettes.
Jarabe de Palo – El Lado Oscuro (La Flaca) (4:47)
Across the Floor
Paris Combo – Fibre de verre (Attraction or Putumayo Presents: French Café) (3:40)
Nice photos in this video. Very French. Thanks, Sandra, for the Putumayo CD.
Stevie Wonder – Signed, sealed, delivered (I’m yours) (The Definitive Collection) (2:40)
An abbreviated, live performance with Beyonce.
Pink Martini – Let’s never stop falling in love (Hang on little tomato) (3:03)
A live performance. The actual song starts 0:50 into the video. The opening music is from the album. The CD version of this song has a much more pronounced beat that’s easy to follow when moving across the floor.
On the Floor
Caccini – Ave Maria (Julian Lloyd Webber – Cello Moods) (5:32)
This video is a performance of the aria. Webber does a wonderful version of it on the cello. I often use this for stretch. The video will at least give you the melody, which is beautiful and haunting. The performance here by the Korean soprano, Sumi Jo, is riveting.
Rhineberger – Cantilena from Sonata No. 11 in D minor (Julian Lloyd Webber – Cello Moods) (6:21)
Debussy – Reverie (Julian Lloyd Webber – Cello Moods) (4:02)
Franck – Panis angelicus (Julian Lloyd Webber – Cello Moods) (4:29)
The music was originally written for a tenor solo. Here’s a version by a soprano, backed by choirboys. Again, you can hear the melody, but I prefer the cello version for On the Floor.
Elgar – Salut d’amour, Op. 12 (Julian Lloyd Webber – Cello Moods) (3:18)
Here’s a video with a violin version of the music. The cello version is much calmer.
