Music: Rosen Movement Playlist September 22

Fall trees reflected in water

Source: God Hear Me

I suppose I always love all the music I use in class, but this playlist has some of my most favorite favorites – Hot Club of San Francisco, Roy Orbison, Linda Ronstadt. Enanitos Verdes is one of my favorite groups. I use several of their songs in classes.
For the Linda Ronstadt songs that are listed in On the Floor, I remove the introductions with a software program. That’s partly because I also use these songs for Stretch, and the introduction doesn’t work well for Stretch. The complete songs would work fine for On the Floor, though.

The entire Julian Lloyd Webber album, Cello Moods, is wonderful.
I don’t normally like Celine Dion when she sings in English. She doesn’t sound authentic to me. But I used to move to several songs from The French Album in a NIA class, and they really grew on me.
I was able to find YouTube videos for a number of these songs, so you can listen to the entire song. In a number of cases, the video is from a live performance. The album versions of those songs are much better.

Warm Up

Celine Dion – J’Attendais (The French Album) (4:24)
Céline Dion - The French Album - J'attendais

This video is from a concert. The version on the album is a studio recording (with no applause).

Enanitos Verdes – Del Cairo a Paris (Amores Lejanos) (4:37 after removing the intro)
Los Enanitos Verdes - Amores Lejanos - Del Cairo a Paris

This video is from a concert. The album version is much better. You can get a sense of the song, however. It’s very catchy.

New 101 Strings Orchestra – Edelweiss (Strictly Slow Waltz) (2:41) (waltz)
This arrangement of Edelweiss doesn’t have a really strong beat for students to follow. Most students are familiar with the song, however, and I’ve never had a problem using it.

On the Floor

Linda Ronstadt – I’ve got a crush on you (What’s New) (2:34 without intro)
Linda Ronstadt - What's New - I've Got a Crush On You

This video includes the introduction, which I remove for use in class.

Linda Ronstadt – Someone to watch over me (What’s New) (2:50 without intro)
Linda Ronstadt - What's New - Someone to Watch Over Me

This video is a concert version of the song, not the album version.

Linda Ronstadt – What’ll I do (What’s New) (3:13 without intro)
Linda Ronstadt - What's New - What'll I Do?

Linda Ronstadt – What’s New (What’s New) (3:52)
Linda Ronstadt - What's New - What's New?

This video is a concert version, not the album version.

Linda Ronstadt – Lover Man (Oh where can you be) (What’s New) (4:22)
Linda Ronstadt - What's New - Lover Man (Oh Where Can You Be?)

This is NOT the Linda Ronstadt video. It’s Norah Jones singing this song. So, if you’re not familiar with the song, you can hear the whole thing. And it’s very nice.

Linda Ronstadt – Cry me a river (Hummin’ to Myself) (4:25)
